What is glutathione?
Glutathione is a small tripeptide (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) produced inside every cell of the body. It supports the cell's ability to neutralize reactive oxygen species, conjugate metabolic byproducts in the liver, and recycle other antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E. Levels can vary with diet, alcohol use, environmental exposures, age, and chronic stress.
The glutathione preparations available through The Pep Club are compounded by a licensed compounding pharmacy and prescribed under U.S.-licensed physician supervision. Patients receive a personalized dose determined by their physician after a clinical intake.
Who can be considered
Patients evaluated for compounded glutathione typically describe fatigue, environmental-toxin exposure history, alcohol use, or post-illness recovery contexts. Eligibility is determined at consultation. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, known sulfur-compound allergies, and active asthma (for IV administration) are contraindications. The physician reviews all prior medications, including chemotherapy or acetaminophen use, before issuing a prescription.
Safety and follow-up
The most commonly reported side effects are mild injection-site irritation, occasional headache, and mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Rare events include bronchospasm during IV administration in patients with reactive airway disease, and skin-tone changes with prolonged high-dose use. Patients are instructed to discontinue and contact the practice immediately if any breathing difficulty, rash, or unexpected reaction occurs. Follow-up consultations occur at the cadence determined by the prescribing physician.
Frequently asked
How is The Pep Club’s compounded glutathione prepared?
Compounded glutathione is prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy under U.S.-licensed physician prescription. Patients are screened and supervised by a licensed physician throughout treatment. Outcomes vary individually and are reviewed at each follow-up consultation.
How quickly will I notice anything?
Patient experience varies. Some patients describe a subjective change in energy or complexion within the first few weeks; others report no change. Glutathione is not a treatment for any specific disease and outcomes cannot be guaranteed. Your physician will discuss realistic expectations at consultation.
